THE WRITER
Hanlie Visser is a practicing attorney with a vast experience in divorce law. The information shared in this blog is a combination of stories shared with her over the years as well as her own experiences.
She prides herself to be extremely outspoken, embarrassingly honest, dreadfully unconventional and above all, exceptionally compassionate in her work.
This blog is mainly written in the first person to protect the privacy and trust of her clients and to still get the message to the millions of women who struggle with the same problems, questions and trauma.
The content of the articles is aimed to assist women to cope with divorce, to forewarn them of the emotional, physical and mental challenges they will face and is told in the same straight forward manner Hanlie is known for without soft-soaping sensitive issues.
In order to give an actual and truthful account of the “actions of madness” Hanlie has actively participated in most of the activities she writes about – from sky diving, horse riding, river rafting, hiking and gliding to joining online dating sites (herein exposing herself to often embarrassing, humiliating and degrading behaviour). However, in the process she has challenged herself and overcame most of her own fears and anxieties.
Her motto is: If you’re old enough to get divorced, you’re old enough to deal with the shitty reality…
Enjoy the untold truths…. the shit that no one speaks about.

My personal message
I have walked the walk…. stumbled and fell….. Shed the tears…traveled the road…. my life Camino – Destiny…the one opportunity to get to know myself – who I am, my purpose in life, my connection with the universe, my spiritual being. But my journey is not finished yet…
To confront yourself with the truth is never easy – my most recent “Damascus moment” was while doing the online dating site article – Out of the blue I was confronted with the unfamiliar… thrown completely off-balance, flung from my comfort zone… I had to regroup, do soul searching, reassess a lifetime’s beliefs of integrity, self-worth, pride….make choices…. experience loss…deal with reality… Accept the unchangeable… “I am… I said… I am”.
I am grateful to the universe for sending people to cross my path – at the most bizarre places – to teach me the lessons I need to learn…. because I am never too old to learn….Even if some of the lessons suck!!! I had to be reminded to always stay true to myself… not to try to be someone I’m not… to trust and rely on my instinct when in doubt…And most of all – to admit to your mistakes.
So let’s learn from each other on this journey….FROM HELL TO HEALTH…
